What Causes Burning Sensation And Swelling On The Ring Finger?

I broke the distal bone in my ring finger 3 weeks ago. Good news it didn t have to be put back into place. Incredible burning under and around the nail. I m not sure if I ll lose the nail, it feels firm. It s still quite swollen, bruising is going away. What s with the burning?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Your burning sensation is probably the result of nerve impingement. Perhaps as a result of the accident, muscle or bone got dislodged and is now pressing on that nerve.

The swelling reflects bleeding into the soft tissues of the finger and should gradually resolve. If you can locate a hand surgeon(orthopedic surgeon who has additional training dealing with conditions of the hand), you will receive the best care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Arnold Zedd,
