What Causes Burning Sensation And White Patches In The Throat?

Hi...My name is sherry and last night my throat started to burn..by morning my adenoids were swollen and almost touching uvula....I thought it was viral and tried to rest and drink liquids...cannot tolerate solids at this time. A couple hrs ago I took a penlight and looked at my throat...I definitely see white patches...so now the picture has changed.. As an aside had dental cleaning 1 wk ago and dentist said she saw bacteria on one adenoid and tried to scrape off as much as possible...but some still remained...any correlation?

Hi.
Thanks for the query..

Burning sensation in throat with white patches at the back of throat seems to be probably due to a severe case of bacterial throat infection known as Strep Throat..

White pustules are pus pockets that further confirms towards bacterial infection..

For confirmation consult an Emergency roomt or an ENT expert and get evaluated..
He can do investigations like Throat swab culture can help in diagnosis..

You can be advised Antibiotics like Augmentin OR Azithromycin to resolve the infection..
Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be taken to relive pain. Doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can be very much relieving.
You can also suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat..
Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water..
Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
