Hi. I had an infection which a doctor friend said it was gonorrhea and i was given injection for 3 days and still yet i still have the burning sensation around my penis, scrotum and close to my anus. i had discharge the first time i treated this but not anymore. I only experience this burning sensation in the parts mentioned above. i have been using antibiotics (Turbocef 500) for days now and when i stopped for a day, the burning sensation came back the following day. what can i do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If you are sexually active & have multiple partners you are suggested to get physically examined by a GP & get STD tests done to rule out any sexually transmitted infections. If tested positive you will need antibiotics & antivirals.

Avoid sex for a couple of days while you are being treated. Burning sensation or pain around the groin to the rectum is indicative of UTI or Prostatitis. Get examined by a GP, get assessed, get treated. Get CBC, Urinalysis, Imaging tests done.

You need antibiotics, alpha-blocking agents, muscle relaxants. Your treatment depends upon the severity of the pathology detected, it is commonly treated in 14-15 days but if its chronic it may take 6-12 weeks.

Take sitz bath to stay comfortable & stay away from food (alcohol, smoking, drugs, nicotine, caffeine) that may trigger your symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
