What Causes Burning Sensation At The Tip Of Tongue While Having Diabetes?

It feels like the tip of my tongue is burnt, especially when I smoke, but for 3-4 months now. I think I actually did burn myself on really really hot coffee and it never went away. I wouldn t think twice a about it, except it s lasted for sooo long. I have been diagnosed with many autoimmune disorders (RA, ulcerative colitis, spondylitis, probably lupus,...), type 2 diabetes from several years of prednisone, and reflux. I currently get Orencia infusions every 4 weeks, and take many other medications. Any thoughts on why I have this weird sensation on my tongue so long?? Thank you for your ideas! ~Tracy

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain it seems that burnt feeling of the tip of the tongue that occurs especially after smoking is due to exposure and irritation of the tongue tip to the heat and chemical particles present is cigarette smoke and it leads to inflammation of the tongue tip also known as Glossitis..
As you are on multiple medications therefore it can also be due to side effects of medication and dryness in mouth..
I would suggest you to first of all stop smoking and if you are addicted you can go for nicotine replacement therapy like nicotine gums and skin patches..
You can do warm saline gargles..
Do cool compresses over the tongue tip and also do cold water rinses..
Drink plenty of water to prevent dry mouth..
Avoid spicy and very hot foods..

Hope this helps..

Thanks and regards.
