What Causes Burning Sensation During Urination And Vaginal Spotting?
A 25 year old woman comes to you complaining of a vaginal discharge. She tells you that she has often had yeast infections, but that she has treated this one with an over the counter medication for yeast infections as in the past, but this time the infection has not gone away. She has also experienced a burning sensation during urination and had some spotting between her last 2 periods. What disease would you suspect and how would you test to confirm your suspicions
Your symptoms are indicating urinary infection as the most common cause, but STD and kidneys stones are also possible causes. It is mainly self-limiting and doesn't require any specific treatment, and you should just be patient and have fluids to promote urination.
If it continues, you should do urine analysis, urine culture, and kidneys ultrasound to rule these main causes out. You should drink raspberry tea and plenty of water until you do tests. Also, avoid sexual intercourse and have to keep good hygiene. You should reduce salt in your diet as well since it could lead to increased risk of urinary stone formation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
