What Causes Burning Sensation During Urination?

I woke up one night with the urge to urinate. Once I had peed at the end of the stream it felt like I still needed to urinate and there was a strong burning sensation. I climbed back in bad but the urge to pee is immensely strong, I thought I was going to pee myself, the burning remains. I tried to use the restroom again but, nothing. I went to the doctor. He did a test, said it came back positive for a very bad uti. He put me on a 7 day course of Bactrim. My symptoms are the worst at night. None of my symptom have gone away. There is a strong smell to my urine, the worst is at night and I am starting to get pain and discomfort in my lower abdomin, also I woke up this morning with a pain in the back on the right side. I went to the Gyno today they tested for chlamydia gonorrhea trichinosis, & again a uti. The uti now came back negative but my symptoms r as strong as ever! I drink lots of water throughout the day. I woke up tonight again with the urge to pee. My bathroom is less then ten feet from my bed. By the time I stood up and got to the toilet I had almost not made it. Again my urine smells so terrible and I am back in bed and it feels like a burning and pressure and feels like I m going to urinate myself. Please help me!! What is this?!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

These symptoms are suggestive of uroinfection and this is common in your age and usually is manifested with pain during urination, fever and changes in urination frequency.

Also, blood traces may be present in urine which can have odour or colour change. Other common cause are urinary stones.

Diagnosis is established by doing urine analysis and urinoculture and after this antibiotic treatment may be started if necessary.

If there is negative urine analysis then you should do ultrasound of kidneys to check for stones. You should drink plenty of fluids and take raspberry tea or juice to promote urination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
