What Causes Burning Sensation In Leg?

I recently had ankle surgery requiring a plate and screws as well as two pins on the opposite side of my ankle. Those pins will be in at least for 6 weeks. What can I expect when they are removed? Are they just pulled out? I still have a burning sensation in my leg, is that normal?
