What Causes Burning Sensation In Mouth, Cheeks And Lips?

I have a burning feeling in my mouth, cheeks and lips. Biotene gives some relief. Also an erratic feeling of pressure on my cheekbones and nasal area. CT scan of my face and sinus area showed no problems. I don't have shooting pains, just a feeling of pressure. This all makes me not sleep well, feel weak and tired. Doctor suggested trigeminal neuralgia as a possibility. Any ideas you may have are greatly appreciated.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Burning sensation inside mouth, cheeks and lips seems to be due to a condition known as Burning Mouth Syndrome..
It can occur due to a number of causes like nutritional deficiency of iron and vitamin B12, dry mouth or xerostomia, stress, acid reflux, side effects of medicines etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination and investigations like blood tests can be advised..
Treatment of underlying cause will resolve the symptoms..
As of now to get relieved you can start gargling with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
Take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Avoid spicy foods and take a soft bland diet..
Suck ice pops..

In case of no improvement a Neurological consultation can be done to rule out the exact cause of the problem and if there is any neurological problem so that it can be treated accordingly..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
