What Causes Burning Sensation In The Chest After Swallowing A Chewing Gum?

I was talking with someone this morning. The gum I was chewing accidentally slipped down my throat. For moment, had mild sense like choking. Now able to breathe ok. Able to eat lunch ok today and drink things. But since this happened having some discomfort in chest like heartburn and some occasional coughing like I need to clear my throat. Could i have got this gum in my lungs or just bruised some area? Chest is sore now/burning like when cough too much or if exposed to cold air. Please help.
