What Causes Burning Sensation In The Chest?

I am feeling a constant burning in the middle of my chest ... had it for 3 days and I went to doctor today and asked him for a referral to a cardiologist and he said he would get it going but wanted me to try nexium first. Do you think that is a good idea

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Burning sensation in chest most commonly due to acid reflux/ esopahgitis, acidity, gastritis, peptic ulcer disease.
Heart disease cause sensation of tightness, pressure, or squeezing type of pain and may be radiate to other part.
I would suggest to take the advise of your doctor first.
Routine blood test with CK CK MB, ECG, urea breath test, barium enema if needed will helpful
If CK and CK MB and ECG will come abnormal then consult the cardiologist

Following advises will help you
Take tablet nexium as per your doctor advise.
Syrup mucaine before the meal
Take diet like banana, rice, apple sauce, toast, butter mill and yogurt
Avoid spicy/fatty/oily food
Drink plenty of water
Eat small frequent meal
Take enough sleep and do regular exercise like walking, running and yoga
Hope this may help you
