Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 65 year old female experiencing a burning in my chest. I have had an endoscopy, which indicated I have a hiatal hernia. My esophagus is normal. One small polyp that was benign. Next step was to see a cardiologist. EKG normal. I had a Stress Echo, which turned out to be normal. I am still experiencing burning pain in the chest. It gets better when I eat a meal or sitting down helps. Laying down doesn t bother. It s usually the worst 10 min. after I get up in the morning. It gets better after I eat, then it acts up again before lunch. I don t know what to do next.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. I understand your concern. Your symptoms are due to irritated mucus membrane of stomach/ peptic ulcer. The stomach inner lining gets irritated when it's empty, & gets irritated due to the acidic gastric enzyme being collected in herniated stomach.... so you feel hungry/ burning when you get up in morning..& is relieved after you eat something ( acidic reaction gets neutralized ). Self effort- - Avoid eating oily, spicy or hoe eatables. Avoid being empty stomach.. specially have some dry snacks or cold milk before you get up in morning. - Gelusil MPS pills can be sucked when there is burning. - Meet Gastroenterologist for further instructions. - Ask him about possibility of H pylori infection & hernia repair surgery. Thanks
