What Causes Burning Sensation In The Eyes After Waking Up In The Morning?

I wake up every morning and my right eye will start to tear and then burn to the point where I need to rinse my eye over the sink, this has started in the last month, I don't usually have problems with it during the day only the mornings. should I look into getting drops and see if that helps and if that doesn't go to an eye doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms could be due to dry eye and allergies. I would suggest to consult the ophthalmologist and get examined for proper treatment. Following treatment will help you:

- Apply eye drops containing chorpheniramine maleate at bed time
- Apply lubricating eye drops like refresh at bed time
- Tablet levocetrizine at the bedtime
- Apply cold compression
- Drink plenty of water and eat healthy diet

Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
