What Causes Burning Sensation In The Groin Area?

Hi I had bilateral inguinal hernia surgery 7 months ago. I have been having burning/ irritation on one side of the groin that started about 2.5 weeks after surgery. I think it is the genito-femoral nerve -genital branch. I was wondering if an MRI or CT is better for detecting this. Also if I want a second opinion other than my surgeon what type of specialist should I see?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sorry to hear of your trouble. In fact nerves cannot be seen with CT or MRI we need and NCS to know if there is any problem with a nerve but I don't think you need this. A CT would be best option to see if anything is wrong in the area where you are not feeling well. You can see a surgeon in this regards.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
