What Causes Burning Sensation In The Kidney?

I have had over several months a burning sensation in my left kidney......no other symptoms of burning while urinating, or pain. The last few day it is constant and can be relieved by a cold compress. I am on antibiotic for bronchitis . Is this serious? YYYY@YYYY
