What Causes Burning Sensation In The Lips?

I took oral Diflucan tablet on Wednesday July 26 for possible Yeast infection and today I am having extreme burning of my lips and it even is going into the roof of my mouth. I have dry mouth, dry eyes syndrome but this is new! Could it possibly be a side effect of the Diflucan? I have taken it in the past and had no problem. I am 62 years old, female. Thank you

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Burning sensation of the lips and roof of mouth can be due to side effect of medication or allergic reaction..

As you already have dry mouth and dry eyes that is a common finding in Sjogren's Syndrome and is also commonly seen to cause burning and soreness in mouth and lips..

So in case if the symptoms occurred immediately after taking the antifungal medication Diflucan, therefore you should first of all stop taking another dose of the same and consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

For now you can gargle with numbing mouthwash like Lidocaine or can suck Chlorseptic lozenges as it is also numbing agent..
Do cool compresses over the lips..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
