General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Burning discomfort is commonly related to abnormal function of nerves in the area, this is called neuropathy.

It can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes.

Some of the more common reasons are trauma to the nerves eg from arthritis, diabetes, kidney or liver disease, thyroid disease, low vitamin B12 or folate.

There are meds that help with neuropathy that your doctor can order for you.

e.g. amitriptyline, tegretol, and lyrica.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
