Hello user,
Welcome to HCM,
Sad to know about your friends condition.

Phenyl poisoning may occur by any route and can produce sytstemic effects. Phenol is corrosive and hence produces chemical burns at the contact site.

As little as 50-500mg has been fatal in infants . However in adults 1-32 g is seen to be the fatal dose.

Effect of phenol on Gastrointestinal system is very prominient. Nausea , Vomitting , abdominal pain and diarrhoea are the common symptoms which are seen due to ingestion of phenol by any route. It can also cause corrosive injury to the mouth , throat , oesophagus and stomach, with bleeding , perforation , scarring and stricture formation as its sequelae.
I hope this answers your query abut the burning sensation.

For this , you can use Suspension Sucral -O(2 Tsf four times daily ,before food). This will provide an anaesthetic and a soothing effect in the oesopahgus and the stomach.

In case of ingestion, Emesis should not be induced. As you have said that the patient is conscious and oriented, so in such cases , you can give 4-8 ounces of milk, egg whites or gelatin solution.

However these measures of decontamination are best taken by admitting the patient in a hospital set-up and at first addressing the emergency measures of maintaing the airways, Breathing and circulation.

Also, consult with a psychiatrist since your friend may require help of an expert so that she does'nt repeat this in the future.

Hope this helps,

Regards.
