What Causes Burning Sensation Inside The Vagina During Sex While On Periods?

Hi, My girlfriend and I have had intercourse multiple times since the beginning october, she has taken plan b 20+ times. She was on her period, we tried intercourse, she said it had a burning sensation inside her vagina, we had to stop. There was a thick dark blood in large amounts. What could this be?

usually you should avoid sex during periods as this time inner uterine wall shed off produces bleeding and some little inflammation . sexual act during this time increases this inflammation and produces discomfort/burning/pain to women .
