What Causes Burning Sensation On Tongue?

I have a burning sensation on my tongue like someone sprinkled pepper on it. I still have all my taste buds. I have no sores or bumps on my tongue. Nothing is painful or sore, just a burning sensation that is noticeable all the time. What can it be? Thank you in advance.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . There can be many reason for burning sensation of tongue like fungal infection ,dry mouth ,vitamin deficiency or allergic reaction to some food.

I would suggest you to consult dentist /oral pathologist for proper examination .Doctor may order blood test, saliva test or allergic test.

For now rinse mouth with cold water several times a day ,start multivitamin supplement , keep your stress level low and take ibuprofen (if not allergic) or acetaminophen for pain and inflammation .

Hi.
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain burning sensation of tongue without any visible problem with the tongue can be due to a condition known as "BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME".

It can be without any known cause and in that case it is known as Primary BMS.
It can also occur due to certain other reasons also known as Secondary BMS like Dry mouth, effect of some medicines like blood pressure medicines, fungal infection, nerve damage, salivary gland dYsfunction, Sjogrens syndrome, vitamin deficiency, diabetes, dentures etc.

You can very much relate if anything I described is causing you the burning of tongue..

I would suggest you to consult an oral pathologist who can take a detailed medical history and clinical examination and pathological investigations can help in finding a correct diagnosis.

A correct diagnosis can help in planning a proper treatment.

A few things which you can do at home is to sip on more of cool liquids.

Avoid taking hot and spicy foods.

You can apply numbing gels on tongue in case of severe burning.

Hope your query is solved..
