What Causes Burning Sensation On Vagina While Urinating?

Hi,
Recently I've been experiencing some discomfort with my vagina - a bit of itching and a slight burning sensation after urinating (almost like I've had a slight urine infection which I am prone to). This lasted approx a week and has practically gone these last few days, but lately my diet has been really poor and I've not been drinking much. Today I had sex - with my long term partner, we tend to have sex around twice a week, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less, but before today we'd not had sex for a few weeks. After intercorse, I bled a little and now my vagina is very red and sore (like a friction burn). Sex wasn't rough but I've always been very sensitive down below. I was screened for all infections around 18 months ago before I had the coil fitted and had been with my partner for 4 years and as far as I know he's not been unfaithful (not have I) so very very little chance of an sti. I have bathed in cool water and applied some perfume free ointment that's suitable for dry/sore/burns, and that seems to be soothing it. Do you think I'm correct in what it is? (Slight water infection then tenderness/friction burn). Thanks

Hello there,
Based on your description you seem to be having something called honeymoon cystitis. this is a type of water infection /urine tract infection seen in women who have had intercourse. This is fairly common and nothing to be overtly worried about. Your g.p would prescribe you a 2 week course of antibiotics. This along with having plenty of fluids and an alkalinising solution like citralka would help you recover soon.
Hope this helps,
