Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Butterfly-shaped Rashes On The Face While Having Lupus?
I have lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. I take plaqunil, prednisone, hydroclorothiazide, synthriod, and hydrocodone daily. A few days ago I broke out all over in a rash and the butterfly rash on my face. But my pain level is so bad I can t stand it. My whole body hurts so bad all over that all I can do is lay in bed in cry. My appointment with my rheumatologist isn t until the 1st of September. What am I supposed to do? Should I go to the ER? My pain level is at a 9 and I can t get any relief.
In lupus, the butterfly rash is commonly seen. Currently the pain is something that needs dose adjustment for relief.
As your next appointment is in September, and the pain level you said is unbearable so, I would suggest you visit your doctor early if possible or go to the ER.
Flared up symptoms need appropriate management or else they disturb your daily life. Make sure you are taking all the medicines as per your doctor’s advise.
Do not stop or add up any medicines without consulting your doctor. This can make the disease more severe.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
