The have said its not tinnitus as the sounds come and go. His head sometimes feels its going to exploded. He needs pain killers sometimes. The ent is saying he is imaging the symptoms. The fitted a gromet, but no change. He feels that behind the ear needs draining. But they won t do the ct scan to see if what he is saying is correct

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your partner having sensation of blocked ears, some noise off an on, ENT Check up, gromet insertion and so on but no relief.
The commonest causes I can think are as one of the following:
Otosclerosis.
Trigeminal nerve or vestibulocochlear nerve problems.
Inflammation of the vestibulo-cochlear apparatus in inner ear.
Since ENT Surgeon has already seen you, treated you I would advise you the following in such a situation.
MRI and CT scan of the mastoids
Audiometry.
MRI for trigeminal nerve.
Tests of blood for CBC, liver and kidney function, thyroid function.
Proper clinical evaluation for blood pressure or such problems.
Second opinion of another ENT Surgeon and Neurologist.
All these tings will lead to a proper diagnosis so that a proper management can be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
