What Causes Cardiomyopathy While Treating Stage-3 Breast Cancer?
I had a pacemaker - defibrillator put in a year ago. This was due to weak heart muscle(30%) I was told this could be from chemo 26 years ago. This has caused problems in the left part of my heart! I received a call from my doctor to come in and get it checked a month. At that time they double my meds and put me on another medicine to hopefully increase my muscle in my heart! My defibrillator has not gone off! They said my pacemaker was not pacing. Had my thyroid removed 2 mths. ago because of a nodule that they thought could be cancer. Was wondering if this surgery caused my heart muscle to weaken more or is it because it will continue to weaken because of chemo meds 26 years ago. I am light headed and have a chronic cough was tried and sleep a good bit after surgery but after they doubled my meds most of my sleepiness is gone! I am 68 years old had stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 41. I know I am very blessed to be alive. But still would like to live several more years! Is it possible to keep my heart muscle from getting any worse? Thanks, Brenda
First of all, I would like to take opportunity to congratulate you for being best fighter against cancer.
* As per my surgical experience, the cardiomyopathy is not related to surgery of stage 3 cancer.
* But there can be association with coronary artery damage through ongoing atherosclerosis, damage via free radicals produced by the circulating cancer cells, low immunity and compromised cardiac work by changes of pre load and after load.Do give me further chance to assist in future.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
