What Causes Chalk Smell With Swollen Face And Fullness In The Ears?

i wanted to read the answer to this question about smelling chalk. i get this... my doctor thought I was nutz! I see it is completely in line with what I suspected- SINUS trouble. Dr has been calling it allergies for months which only delayed my treatment and allow my symptons to get much worse.... my face (mostly eyes) has been swollen for weeks - ears feel like they are going to EXPLODE.... so mad I had to suffer so long....I am allergia to Sulfa drugs and might be to amoxicillin too....what is they antibiotic of choice for this? Does the chalk smell ever go away?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The issue here sounds to be closely related to damage of olfactory bulb from the issue with a cribriform plate or else.

I would like to evaluate the case personally for further workup and line of management.

So far as the antibiotic of choice is concerned, I would quote a cephalosporin as the drug of choice for such sinus issues.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Purva Patel, General & Family Physician
