What Causes Chemosis Developed In Both Eyes?

I have been treated with Restasis 2/day and Refresh preservative free 4 times a day for extremely dry eyes. Today I have chemosis in both eyes but the left has a yellowish fluid pocket under the lower lid. I have several drops from having cataract surgery and not able to get in touch with facility at this time.

Hi,

Chemosis is the non-specific specific conjunctivitis, mostly allergic. it can be seen in dry disease also as the ocular surface is already compromised and prone for inflammation. You can use medicine from your cataract surgery itinerary (if they are not old or expired) for the day. but you are required to consult your ophthalmologist for exact diagnosis and treatment. Continue with Restatsis and Refresh Tear eye drops (dose of refresh tears can be increase if eye irritation persists). You can also take oral anti-histamine tablet (like Cetrizine) if its available with you.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saurabh Mittal, Ophthalmologist
