What Causes Chest And Shoulder Pain After Cleaning Drainage Tube In Lower Abdomen?

My nephew has a drainage tube in the lower part of his abdomen. A nurse cleaned it out with a full syringe of saline and he immediately felt pain in the abdomen that continued up to his shoulders and into his neck. That was three days ago and now he has lung pain, chest pain and neck and shoulder pain. He cannot raise himself up off his bed. Can saline cause peritonitis?

No saline cant cause peritonitis at all. Saline is 0.9% NaCl solution, the same already present in most parts of body and blood normally.
He is getting sick so complaining pain. It has nothing to do with aspiration.
