What Causes Chest Congestion And Cough After Drinking Gatorade?
My mom is 81. Overall healthy but has 7 yrs of dementia. Is completely ambulatory. Takes Synthroid and Celexa daily. Was being walked in the door and began throwing up Friday night 9/30/16, was assisted to the floor by me but i had to quickly grab her by back of shirt to assist in quickly getting her on her side to throw up a second time. Gave Gatorade and she eats really good. I have noticed some congestion and a cough that began the next day. Is it possible she aspirated and that is what is causing the coughing and congestion I hear?? Has had no fever.

Aspiration may cause cough and aspiration pneumonia in dementia patients in which reflexes are very slow. Also, check for gastritis with lower respiratory tract infection etc.
Use tablet pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. avoid cool drinks and freeze water avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.
Use water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days.
If symptoms not improved please consult your physician he will examine and advice chest x-ray and treat her accordingly.
