What Causes Chest Congestion Despite Giving Wikoryl Syrup To A Child?

I have an IUGR girl child weighing 2 kgs at birth.Till 6 wks her at gain was 30 gms per day. Now she has got cold and cough.Her pediatrician has started her on wikoryl syrup 3 days back.She has chest congestion. In 4 days she went from 3.25 kg to 3.23 kgs Pediatrician says mothers milk is inadequate, and prescribed pathogen but she s not taking top feeds too. Please advice Her frequency and quantity of breast milk sucking both was less in 3 days. She just keeps on coughing. Please advice.

Hello,

I think you should keep breastfeeding if your baby girls is not willing to take formula milk. Next, I think your baby needs to take:
- Baby cold balm at night to open airways
- Aerosol-therapy with physiologic plus beclometasone (Clenil)
- Nasal spray
Plus, should get re-checked to rule out complications like pneumonia. If not feeding well, should send to hospital as she might need intravenous therapy until betterment.
