What Causes Chest Congestion In A Child?

well hi doctor, my son is 5 1/2 month old, he has developed some chest congestion, what I noticed that his voice was not clear as it used to be. Doctor advised him maxtra oral drops (0.4 ml) thrice in a day along with Azibact once in a day for 5 days and my child is not taking mothers milk. Is it ok, can u advise, pl.

The symptoms you describe point to a respiratory infection of that could be of viral or bacterial origin.Most of these infections are caused by viruses and symptomatic treatment will do.However, bacteria infection or superinfection are common and will justify the use of antibiotics.The symptoms could also be caused by allergy.If your Doctor place your son on Azibact, it means he had arguments in favor of a bacteria infection.Mixtra is a good nasal decongestant and is well indicated in the management of such infections.
I will suggest you just observe the child and give the drugs as prescribed.
Keep the child away from cold and nasal irritants like smoke and dust.
