Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chest Discomfort After Donating Blood?
I donated blood 2 days ago. During the process I passed out, vomited and aspirated the vomit. Since then, I feel like I can t completely catch my breath, have chest discomfort and am exhausted. Urgent care advised I go to the Emergency Room and get checked for aspiration pneumonia, but I don t want to jump the gun and waste $250 if I don t have to. What should I watch for to indicate I really should go?

General & Family Physician, Dr. RS Gulati's Response
Blood donation causes no chest pain. All it causes is mild giddiness which is made up after 10 minutes of lying flat, take 2-3 glasses of water ,2-3 biscuits & a hot cup of tea or coffee. If you vomited for any reason & aspirated it may cause pain chest for a day or so. Xray chest is not required. Recovery is very fast in such cases.
