Hello and welcome to HCM.
Thanks for putting up your query over here.
I would like to know since when you are on
nitrofurantoin and what respiratory problems you had in past?Is there history of smoking?
There is a chance that
chest pain you are developing can be because of nitrofurantoin as an
allergic reaction or
pneumonitis.
To assess whether it is due to nitrofurantoin or not, your previous medical history and chest Xray needs to be compared with new chest X ray to be done now.
You need to get a chest XRay done.Further investigations, may be necessary depending on X ray findings.
If pneumonitis due to drug is found, the drug needs to be stopped.
Corticosteroids needs to be given in decreasing doses under supervision.
I dont think ventolin inhaler will create any problem in this situation, but it is better to do any intervention under expert supervision.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks .
