What Causes Chest Heaviness And Heart Palpitations While Suffering From Severe Malnutrition?

I have chest heaviness, sob and heart pounding, upon exertion and occasional palpitations. I am a former smoker, quit in 1998, smoked 1 pack or more per day for 20 years. I am now 55. In the last few years, I suffered severe malnutrition due to undiagnosed celiac, and was in ICU due to early organ failure. Also, I have been treated for hep C, took 3 years of interferon/ribavirin, then Incivic to finally cure it.

Hi,

Chest heaviness and heart palpitations can be symptoms of various conditions, including heart disease, lung problems, and neurological disorders. In your case, the combination of factors, including your history of smoking, severe malnutrition, and treatment for hepatitis C, suggest that your symptoms may be related to various cardiovascular and metabolic factors.

You must consult a healthcare provider to diagnose and treat your symptoms, which may indicate a more serious underlying condition. Your provider may also consider conducting further tests, such as an electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, or blood tests, to determine the cause of your symptoms and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

The symptoms of heaviness of chest, dyspnea and palpitation on exertion are pointing to some problem with the heart. As you had also suffered from malnutrition, therefore, anemia may be one of the cause for the load on heart producing such symptoms.

Hence to start with to reach at a diagnosis, you are advised to go for your CBC, for presence of anemia, if any. Also base line heart check up with ECG and stress test is advised to confirm / rule out any heart involvement and treatment advised accordingly under guidance of your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
