What Causes Chest Pain After A Knee Replacement Surgery?

My Mom has knee replacement surgery. She was doing fine, but has now returned to the hospital for the 2nd time this week for chest pain. Would this be a result of not wearing compression stocking? And yes she smokes cigarettes, about half a pack recently. She has been smoking for over 40 years.

Hello,

Any major orthopedic surgery may give risk in immediate or early postoperative period. Later on, there is no risk especially when a person starts walking.

I will suggest a chest x-ray PA view and spirometry as she is a smoker.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Varinder Joshi
