What Causes Chest Pain After Having Food?

Yes. My husband has had heart problems for several years. He has a St. JuDE heart valve. His heart oonly works 25%. Lately he has been having chest pains. Most of the time it is after he eats. Is this his heart that s causing the pain, or is there something else that could be causing the pain?

Hi. Chest pain in a patient with heart disease can be due to the heart disease itself or due to non-cardiac causes. The history of pain after eating would point towards a possible GERD - gastro-esophageal reflux disease. However, if I were your husband's doctor, I'd like to have an EKG, echo and upper GI endoscopy before giving the final diagnosis. If there is a problem about getting the tests done, I might try an acid reducing drug. Trust that answers your question.
