What Causes Chest Pain After Swallowing Piece Of Hard Candy?

My husband choked on a piece of candy. It lodged for a second but when he took a drink it went down. Now he says it feels like it s lodged in his chest area and hurts when he takes a drink. He is breathing and speaking fine. Should we go to the emergency room or is it normal for it to be sore?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your husband's situation and problem.
Mild degree of soreness and chest pain is common after choking spell.
So at present, no need to worry much and hence no need to visit emergency room.
But if he develops worsening of chest pain, coughing, breathlessness etc than immediately consult emergency room and get done broncoscopy to rule out aspiration into the lungs.
So watch for these alarming symptoms. At present no need to worry.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wishing good health to your husband.
Thanks.
