Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I told my doctor about some serious chest pains that I ve been having. The pain is severe, in the area of my heart, I can t move, hurts more when I try to breath or move. She says it is not Angina which is different GERD and probably caused by my anxiety. This pain is real, it hurts, and it scares me. What is the difference between Angina and GERD. I have been Dx with Acid Reflux years ago. Thank you for your time. Angela
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The pain of angina is a different type of pain on left side of the chest to the jaw and left hand. It is the heavy type of pain and more importantly, it worsens with exertion, not breathing. It generally occurs in older people and who have risks like family history, lipid abnormalities, diabetes or hypertension.
GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) produces pain which is burning sharp and pain is more central and localized along the food pipe. It worsens with foods and stress.
You must not worry, as this pain is not related to angina or GERD. This pain is muscle pain that worsens with breathing and bending et cetera.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
