What Causes Chest Pain And Brown Mucus?

I have had chest pain and brown mucus the last 5 years. Been through numeroud tests from CT scans to Broncs and everything is clear however I do have multiple scattered 4 millimeter and smaller nodules that I am concerned about but they have been stable years. The chest pain is unbearable. Do you have any other suggestions of what this could be. I have seen numerous pulmonologists and others doctors. Also I have been a 20 year smoker and just recently quit and notice that the mucus has gotten browner with specks in it. Please help!

Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
In my opinion you should get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to rule out obstructive airway disease like bronchitis.
It is common in smokers.
And symptoms are chronic cough with mucus expectoration.
Chest x ray and CT scan, bronchoscopy etc are normal.
It is functional disease, so picked up only by PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
You may need inhaled bronchodilators and antihistamines drugs.
