What Causes Chest Pain And Heart Palpitations In A Alcoholic Person?

I m a daily drinker of mostly ciders but also some vodka and or wine. I m experiencing a lot of chest pain, ache, or tightening . Also have bouts of not being able to catch my breath. My blood pressure is pretty much perfect. 119 over 79. The pains migrate from one side to the other and when worst it goes around into my back. I feel heart palpitations once in a while . Is this all related to drinking ? I am 49 , 5 10 175 lbs in good physical shape. Non smoker , very busy physical worker in a hi stress environment and experience anxiety mostly threw early morning hrs .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello sir,

This is a common problem among people who use alcohol. Most probably you have increased acidity due to alcohol or you may be consuming too much of alcohol.
1. Acidity: acidity caused by alcohol may lead to palpitations, chest pain, sweating and shortness of breath. It is not a problem related to heart but purely stomach. If you consume less spicy food after drinking and having a good night's sleep, the symptoms will come down. If it doesn't
a. Take Tablet pantoprazole 40 mg in morning and night before food for one month. It may reduce the symptoms..
b. reduce amount of alcohol

2. Too much alcohol: if you are drinking more than three drinks a day, it may lead to palpitations. If this is the case, please reduce to 1-2 drinks per day

thank you
