What Causes Chest Pain And Numbness On The Left Side Of The Body?

Male - age 40 - Symptoms are intermittent chest pain, moving and intermittent numbness on the left side of his body from his eyes to his toes. Aches in his joints (again only on the left side) that come and go, difficulty taking a deep breath, sweating off and on. Deep cough that causes his chest to hurt on both sides. Occasional chest pains that feel like a stabbing pain. He says his symptoms are better during the day while he is at work but in the evening they get worse.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I would like to give some tests which can make the whole diagnosis very clear.

1. ECG
2. Complete Blood Count (including ESR)
3. Chest X-Ray
4. Rheumatoid factor
5. Anti-CCP
6. Fasting Blood Sugar
7. Thyroid Function Test (T3, T4, TSH)

I would also like to ask:

1. is there any joint pain?
2. is there any fever?
3. is there any heachache?
4. is there any burning sensation in the chest or below chest?

Meanwhile, you can take pain medication for pain. For cough can do the followings:

Drink extra fluids to help thin secretions and make them easier to cough up. Avoid exposure to allergens & irritants.

Avoid smoking, Dry, tickling coughs can be relieved by sucking on cough lozenges or hard candy.

For nasal stuffiness, try a saline nasal spray or a neti pot. Increasing humidity in the air helps relieve a cough.

Practice vocal hygiene measures (e.g. adequate hydration, avoiding vocal strain, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol, reducing caffeine intake).

Please after the results come, post another question here in HCM, any doctor here can follow up. Do not worry and have a nice day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
