What Causes Chest Pain Despite A Normal ECG Report?

My fraternal twin brother, age 73, recently had a nuclear stress and was given an OK. He went in because he experienced some arm & chest pain. Based on the OK on the nuclear stress test, he wasn t too worried. However, the pain continued and he requested an angiogram which showed 95% blockage in two coronary arteries which required 2 stents. We have a significant heart history in our family. Several family members have died before age 60 from heart attack. My symptoms appear to be gas pains which have been going on for several years. I m on several meds for osteoporosis. My cardiologist ordered a echocardiogram earlier this year and it was OK. Both my brother & I are physically fit and active. Should I insist on an angiogram?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A normal EEG does not rule out cardiac pathology. Angiography is an invasive procedure which gives a direct picture of blockage in heart circulation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
