What Causes Chest Pain On Left Side?

I m having a pain on the left side of my chest, close to where my arm is attached to my body. It feels like an electrical pulse. It feels like I am being shocked. It does not hurt all the time. It comes and goes. It started hurting Sunday. Didn t bother me at all yesterday, but now it does.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it seems to be neuromuscular pain however any correlation with heart needs to be ruled out on a baseline EKG and echocardiogram if needed.

Also, detailed cardiac and chest examination for air entry may also be needed. If any suspicious finding is noted may be asked for a chest X-ray.

Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful for symptomatic relief.

If other possibilities are ruled out muscle relaxants like tizanidine or orphenidine may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
