Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chest Pain Radiating Into Throat/neck/jaw While Having High Cholesterol?
I am a 58 yr old female. 140 lbs, 5 7 tall. My concern is this: I am awakened by chest pain that radiates into my throat/neck area and sometimes into my jaw. (my heart is not racing, nor am I stressed) This only happens at night and does not happen often, weeks or months will go by between episodes . I have mentioned this to my doctor, I have been sent for EKG and stress tests twice and everything comes back normal. I do have high cholesterol (not on medication yet). Heart disease is in my family. It is a little unsettling, so if I m not having a heart attack, what is it?
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns. If stress test has come negative for ischaemia than don't worry regarding anginal pain for heart. It might be musculoskeletal pain or may be because there is narrowing in the one of the main tubes supplying blood to the brain (carotid arteiris )
My advice to you is -
1. Do your carotid doppler study which will give idea regarding any narrowing in this artery. The pain in jaw is called jaw claudication which might be found in this type of disease.
2 It might be simple muscular pain or pain due to gas problem which will be subsided once you get proper treatment from your doctor.
3.Still I advice you to do your 2d echo also as it will show how is your heart working, function of all valves etc. Which might be sometimes reason for chest pain.

High cholesterol has nothing to do with chest pain per se. Thank you. Have a nice day.
