What Causes Chest Pain While Breathing?

A young man who is a friend of mine and lives in Haiti, is having alot of pain in his chest and it hurts when he breaths out. He was hit in the chest with a ball several years ago and it was hurt then. He was recently hit in chest again and now he says it is worse than before. He doesn't have access to much medical intervention, what advice would you give him?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your friend's situation and problem.
He is having repeated blunt chest trauma.
This kind of trauma can cause rib fracture, pneumothorax, Pulmonary contusions and musculoskeletal injury.
And in all these, chest pain on breathing is seen.
So better to get done chest x ray to rule out all these complications.
If chest x ray is normal then no need to worry for much. Possibility of musculoskeletal injury is more.. So ask him to avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise. Avoid movements causing pain. Avoid bad postures in sleep.
Start painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs. Application of warm water pad on affected areas is also beneficial.
Don't worry, he will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wishing good health to your friend. Thanks.
