Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.

I understand from your query that you had central chest pain which occurred while you were resting. How long did it last for? Did it radiate to either /one of your arms, to your jaws or to your back? Was it accompanied by sweating, nausea, breathlessness etc.? Did it occur again since then? How did the pain settle down?

The chest pain could either be due to angina (where the heart is not receiving enough oxygen due to obstruction or spasm of the blood vessels of the heart) or gastric related pain - heartburn and gastritis can sometimes cause similar symptoms as angina pain. Anginal pain typically causes a central chest pain, sometimes radiating to arms/jaws/back and may be associated with breathlessness, palpitations, nausea, sweating etc. If the pain started due to exertion, it gets relieved by taking rest.

When a person is in pain, his heart rate becomes faster and also his BP becomes mildly elevated. Pain also results in anxiety (especially if the pain is related to chest area) and anxiety also causes raised heart beat and BP.

I would not worry about your raised BP or raised heartbeat. I feel if you measure it again it would go back to its normal level. Of course, if it is still raised you need to see your doctor so that your BP medication can be altered.

What I am actually concerned about is that you describe this pain as one of a kind – you never had this pain before. I would advise you to see a doctor to rule out angina pain. If your doctor thinks it could be angina pain, he would ask for an ECG, an ECHO and also a treadmill test (stress test).

Pain due to gastritis can be treated with a 3-4 week course of Lansoprazole 30 mg once a day or Rabeprazole 20 mg once a day, take the tablets in the morning on an empty stomach.

I hope this answer has helped you.

Thank you
