What Causes Chest Pain While On Medication For GERD?

I have GERD, and take plenty of over the counter meds. The pain in my chest has increased a lot in the last few days after a vacation. From looking at anatomy pictures on this site I can see the pain is right were the esophagus and stomach meet. What is the best course of action from here. It s the weekend of course, don t want to go to the emergency room. I have had GERD or get heartburn often and think it is time to have it looked into... who should I see. Is waiting dangerous? I m eating light and everything hurts to eat and drinking just water... as I mentioned vacation is over.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most probably it is a non-cardiac cause like gastritis. If symptoms persist you can consult a physician and plan for an ECG to rule out cardiac causes even though it is unlikely.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
