What Causes Chest Pain While Taking Metformin?

I have PCOS. I cannot take birth control due to the fact of a previous blood clot. Metformin makes me sick the entire time I take it. I tried taking it for 4 months and it just makes me sick. We dropped the dosage and it didn t get any better. Now suddenly I m getting these chest pains that are quick and extremely painful. They come and go. What should I do? My doctor says its just anxiety but I m not so sure.

Hello. Metformin can cause gastritis. Your symptoms fit those. An XR preparation of metformin is better tolerated by patients. You can add a proton pump inhibitor like lansoprazole for relief too. Take care.
