my 27 year old son just called and said that he is having pain in his chest area. He has no other symptoms. He has had irregular heart palpations in the past. His doctor recommended a heart monitor. Should I be concerned and take him to the hospital or wait to call doctor in the morning.
Thanks for your question on HCM. Since your son is having heart issue in past, in my opinion you should consult cardiologist and get done ECG and 2D Echo to rule out cardiac cause. He may have chest pain due to 1. Arrhythmia 2. Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) 3. Anginal pain. So better to rule out all these by ECG and 2D Echo. If both are normal than no need to worry much. Chest pain may be due to muscular pain only.
