What Causes Chills After Hip Replacement Surgery?

I had my hip replaced 3 1/2 weeks ago. I have always had cold hands and feet, but last week it has been worse. I get chills in the evening/night but only in my back area. No temp. BP normal, HR in 70 s. On BP, cholesterol, ASA, Synthroid (thyroid removed, just had levels checked), Wellbutrin medications. Occasional Celebrex and Tramadol. Incision not red. House is 71 degrees, but again feet and hands cold but do not get discolored. After a few hours I then get quite warm and need to remove extra blanket/jacket. Hands/feet somewhat warmer. I am 52 and active.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It looks like you are suffering from Raynaund phenomenon. This disease causes some areas of your body such as your fingers and toes to feel numb and cold in response to cold temperatures or stress. In Raynaud's disease, smaller arteries that supply blood to your skin narrow, limiting blood circulation to affected areas .
It may accompani the rheumatoid autoimmune diseases that you may be suffering from.
You should protect digits,, avoiding emotional stresses, smoking, cold temperature, and tools that vibrate the hands.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
I find this answer helpful
