My 12 year-old son began shaking, like chills without feeling cold. Then projectile vomited mostly water at 4am. A fever developed, high-almost 104. Ibuprofen didn t help, so an hour later I gave him an Aleve, an alcohol wipe-down, and am keeping a cool washcloth in rotation on his head. (He s 5 and about 120#) He vomited water a few times during the day, and after the Aleve his temp lowered to about 101. He s been sipping water and mint ginger ale. He ate some graham crackers and later a chicken wrap (said he was starving and his temp had lowered) and kept those down, but his temp has risen again. I gave him another Aleve (6 hours after the first dose). No other symptoms so it s not the flu,and he did not get the flu vaccine this year. What could it be and what else should I do for him? We have no insurance and no cash for an emergency doctor visit.
