What Causes Chlamydia Despite Taking Azithromycin?
hi. i was diagnosed with chlamydia a week and a half ago and taken 1000mg of Azithromycin. it seems like it hasnt cleared the infection completely and im worried as im in india at the moment and cant get to doctor. ive got doxycyclin with me as malaria prophylaxy and wondering if it wouldnt ve a good idea to just take 2 tbls for a week. can you please thank you. carole(28,female)
If you are diagnosed with chlamydia, your doctor will prescribe oral antibiotics. A single dose of azithromycin or taking doxycycline twice daily for 7 to 14 days are the most common treatment.
With treatment, the infection should clear up in about a week. If your symptoms persist I suggest you retest for chlamydia+gonorrhea and then take the proper treatment again.
Some times there is a co-infection with Gonorrhea as well you have to take that treatment as well along with chlamydia.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr SAMEEN BIN NAEEM, General & Family Physician
